  • New Technology and Canadian Energy Regulators

    June 25th, 2021 | 1:00 – 3:00 pm EST

Canada has made new commitments to reduce GHG emissions by 2030 and 2050. Significant public sector funding has been offered to assist in achieving Canada’s goals. New forms of regulatory intervention will be required to integrate new technologies into regulated utility systems – both for natural gas and electricity.

In 2020, energy regulators in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and British Columbia for the first time grappled with this problem. This program reviews the opportunities and challenges these new cases created and the changes in practice and procedure that may be necessary in the future.

    Modertor:

Gordon E. Kaiser, former Vice Chair, Ontario Energy Board

    Speakers:

Peter Gurnham, Chair, Nova Scotia Utilities and Review Board

Joseph Kelliher, former chair, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

David Morton, Chair, British Columbia Utilities Commission

Assessing the Challenge and Opportunity for Regulators and the Natural Gas Delivery Industry

    April 13, 2021
    12:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET

Note: This event has been concluded. Please see below for recordings and presentations from the workshop.

Join us on April 13 from 12:00 – 3:30 pm ET for a first of kind forum for Canada’s natural gas delivery industry. The objective of this forum is to explore Canada’s 2030 and 2050 emission reduction goals and the role of the gaseous energy delivery industry within it. We will hear from experts on the following themes: i) what are the natural gas/renewable gas emission reduction pathways for Canada to 2030 and 2050, ii) How are Canada’s natural gas delivery companies showcasing leadership on 2030 and 2050, and iii) how should companies and government reflect on key consumers as they plan for the future.

  • Cour sur la réglementation

The Canadian Gas Association is proud to present the 27th Annual Regulatory Course. The objective of the course is to develop a more complete and practical understanding of the Canadian natural gas regulatory framework. New for 2021 is a dedicated focus on regulatory modernization looking at case studies involving utility filings that position the industry in a low emission future. Case studies include hydrogen blending in Ontario and new rates for low use residential customers in Alberta. The course will be delivered in an adult learning format with pre-course reading materials provided to attendees in advance. Interactive participation will be encouraged by using an open format virtual platform.
